History of PMWLA

The International Master Weightlifting Association (IMWA) was established to promote and govern competitive Olympic-style weightlifting for athletes aged 35 and older worldwide. It organizes international events like the World Masters Weightlifting Championships. The association supports age-based competition, ensuring fair play and recognition for veteran lifters.

The Pakistan Masters Weightlifting Association supports and organizes weightlifting events for senior athletes across the country. It aims to foster lifelong fitness and represents Pakistan in global masters competitions.

1970 CWGs UK Silver Medalist

Mr. Abdul Ghafoor ( Pakistan)
First ever Pakistani weightlifter who participated at first ever Commonwealth Games 1970 in 52 Kg category and won a Silver Medal for Pakistan
without having a coach.
Abdul Ghafoor remained National Champion for twenty years.
He is the Oldest living legend of Pakistan Masters Weightlifting and still doing weightlifting activities in Lahore.
